Kile Adumene is an engaged mother of four energetic, awesome, caring, loving children, Kile has over 22 years of experience navigating the social, racial, and educational systems to support her children. Kile is passionate about creating a strong community of parents, educators, and young adults that are honest, supportive, and willing to learn from each other’s struggles to re-creation of solutions to their needs. She is ready to work alongside other partners as they move through educational, social, and racial systems for their community and all residents.

With a Master’s degree in community engagement and education, over 20 years of community leadership, Kile approaches all situations with a desire to understand the root cause before defining the solution that centered the most impacted individuals. Over her 20+ year career in medical, community engagement, education, organization, and program design, Kile had developed expertise in understanding the factors that drive positive outcomes for diverse community members and learners. She is available to work with you in a participative style grounded in empowerment, trust, and empathy.

Caitlin Delaney (she/her/hers) brings 15 years of nonprofit and consulting experience to Brightspot as one of the firms founding partners. Nonprofits are a varied bunch and Caitlin’s experience prior to consulting demonstrates just that: managing the Clinton Foundation’s headquarters office in Boston, designing trainings for national military and veteran reintegration programs, and developing programs for children of prisoners around the world, to name a few.

In 2014, Caitlin pivoted into strategy and development consulting and leads Brightspot’s campaign and strategic planning work. She has engaged clients throughout New England on more than a dozen campaign planning studies and/or capital campaigns projects — supporting efforts of $3-$12 million across all sectors. Working from pre-readiness through campaign counsel, Caitlin enjoys working side-by-side with client teams for the long haul.

In her strategy work, Caitlin focuses on small and mid-size organizations at all stages of development to craft meaningful and actionable strategic plans, as well as various groups and coalitions looking to define their shared priorities and vision for collaboration.

Caitlin is Co-Chair of the NH Women’s Foundation Grants Committee and a past board member at the Joan G. Lovering Health Center in Greenland, NH.

Kelly Delekta (she/her/hers) has over 15 years of experience in development, board management, and overall organizational leadership. Kelly works closely with organizations of all sizes to assess their development functions, create concrete strategies to grow revenue, and facilitate the implementation of tactics to build long-term support. As a former fundraising and nonprofit management professional, her work integrates all stakeholders, recognizing the value of also building a culture of deep engagement on boards to help achieve organizational goals.

Kelly is a current board member of the Portsmouth Public Library.

Russ Grazier co-founded PMAC in response to a call from the city of Portsmouth’s 2002 Cultural Plan. Russ’ passion for music began at a young age when he learned “Dust In The Wind” on guitar. He then transitioned to saxophone and music composition and studied at The Tanglewood Institute, Boston Conservatory, Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Chicago. Russ has taught at many prestigious music schools including the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, the Merit School of Music, the University of Chicago, and Roosevelt University. He began his career as an administrator working for Dantalian Publishing and later served as the manager of the Contemporary Chamber Players of Chicago. When not playing music or teaching, Russ can often be found working on his putting game on a disc golf course with Katie, their two sons, Max and Jake, and their dog Maizie.

Tim Guen is the President of CareerMap, and serves as Chief Strategy Officer. Over the course of his career, Tim has held leadership positions in many different company cultures ranging from large global corporations (Procter & Gamble, Mars Inc.) to small entrepreneurial companies.

His expertise in brand management and organizational effectiveness, combined with 20 years of experience in innovative market research, has armed Tim with unique insights into how professionals can use “personal branding” to optimize career success, and how companies can shape their cultures to maximize employee engagement and performance. Tim is a graduate of Bowdoin College with an executive MBA from Babson, and has served as an adjunct faculty member at Emerson College.

After 25 years as an award-winning television journalist in several different media markets , including NH, Maine and Boston, Barbara knows what it takes to build visibility by finding and sharing authentic stories. Barbara has led countless highly successful media rollouts and PR campaigns. From messaging and writing compelling news releases to orchestrating high profile press events, Barbara brings an important perspective on how to make issues resonate to audiences outside the ballpark. In addition to media relations, Barbara’s experience includes developing communications strategies using traditional PR, social media, and digital marketing technology. Media training and crisis management are also skills that Barbara brings to CrossCurrent Communications. Barbara lives on the Seacoast with her family. She studied English Literature and Creative Writing at Middlebury College, in addition to attending the Breadloaf Writer’s Conference. As a former anchor, reporter, and producer, Barbara was honored with the National Edward R. Murrow award for Best Documentary, numerous Associated Press and Regional Emmy awards, Gracies, and RTNDA awards for her years of reporting in NE.

Briana Marshall (she/her/hers) has more than 15 years of experience working and volunteering in the nonprofit sector. In 2013, Briana shifted her professional focus from in-house fundraising to grant writing as an independent consultant, later co-founding Brightspot in 2018. Her diverse experiences in the sector, continue to inform how she collaboratively and compassionately works with her grant clients.

Acknowledging that there is much more to an effective grant program than the actual writing, Briana’s practice now focuses on full management of her clients’ grant programs (prospecting, grant writing, grant reporting, general grant program organization, advisory around annual grant program budgeting, and counsel around foundation stewardship and cultivation). Briana also offers funder scans to organizations with internal capacity to carry the grant writing forward.

Briana approaches her work with the intent to provide non-burdensome capacity and expertise to her clients, so they can focus more intently on their missions. In addition to direct client work, Briana occasionally provides grant writing workshops for the nonprofit community.

Maureen Miller has 20+ years’ experience in budget and financial management and is committed to developing and continually enhancing financial systems that increase efficiencies and impact, while supporting organizations to achieve strategic fiscal goals.

Maureen offers part-time CFO management and educational services focusing primarily on workshops, financial assessment, and budget & financial management, with the ultimate goal of reducing client’s FOF (fear of financials). She does this by supporting, coaching, and educating clients on how to map out an effective plan to create, understand, and manage their organization’s financial goals and metrics.

In addition to Quickbooks online and extensive Excel experience, other assets include her outstanding people and leadership skills, her ability to translate complicated financial information to people with varied financial skill levels, her positive interactions and collaboration with leadership and staff at organizations she consults with, while consistently staying connected to the vision, mission, and values of those organizations.

Maureen’s background includes 12 years as Finance & Administrative Director at a state-wide nonprofit, 16 years working with 3 different organizations (Sustainability Institute, Carsey School of Public Policy, and the Institute on Disability) within the University of New Hampshire system, and 7 years as a Financial Management Consultant for nonprofits and small businesses.

Writing Your Nonprofit Business Plan

Amy Sterndale is a Seacoast and Wolfeboro area business advisor with the SBDC. Amy is also the owner of Sterndale Strategic, a communications and marketing consulting firm, where she works with companies on rebranding, crisis communications, and creating powerful business stories to engage with stakeholders. One of her past entrepreneurship gigs was developing and marketing a home improvement network for NH contractors.

Amy worked at the Carsey School of Public Policy at the University of New Hampshire and at Random House, Inc. in New York. At Random House she was a marketing manager for Times Books, Times Business, and Random House Reference, promoting books by leaders in government, health, technology, and business including current and past U.S. presidents.

She received her MBA from UNH and is a past board member of the NH Women’s Foundation and the Portsmouth Historical Society. She lives in Durham with her family.

The Nonprofit Ecosystem: Applying a Systems Lens to Our Work

The Art of Hosting Good Meetings & Group Dynamics

Beth Tener is a leadership trainer and coach who helps social change leaders live their values as they address complex challenges, such as transitioning to a clean energy economy, disrupting racism, and revitalizing communities. She is a natural systems thinker who holds the big picture perspective and gives attention to how all the pieces work together. Her skills in “sensemaking” and question framing help leaders and groups get strategic clarity and adapt to change in ways that build trust and cohesion. She brings a practical care for how to engage and include many people to collaborate and find the best path forward.

Her work is informed by broad experience in taking a systems approach, equity and environmental/social issues, gained through work with over 200 companies, government agencies, foundations, and non-profits. Previous client projects included: Working Cities Challenge, NH Food Alliance, United Way of Greater New Bedford, Success Boston, Great Neighborhoods Network of MA Smart Growth Alliance, New Hampshire Farm to School, and Vermont Farm to Plate Network.

In her previous role as Executive Director of Sustainable Step New England, she trained hundreds of people in principles of sustainability and putting them into practice. She helped internal “change agents” take leadership within their organizations to adopt green practices and facilitated networks of change agents from government agencies, businesses, and non-profits. She also convened dialogues between sustainable business leaders and government to explore how government policies could help advance sustainable practices. Prior to that she was a Senior Consultant at Arthur D. Little, where over nine years, she consulted with dozens of companies in diverse industries to create strong internal management systems that could deliver on their sustainability goals.

Beth was on the faculty of the Marlboro College MBA program in Brattleboro, Vermont. She has a B.A. in Political Science from Bates College and a M.S. in Environmental Technology from Imperial College in London. She also has a Permaculture Design Certificate (principles of ecological whole-systems design). She was awarded a fellowship with Center for Whole Communities to participate in Whole Thinking Retreat exploring how diverse leaders in the social justice and environmental movements can find common purpose.
